Stroud & District Football League Chairman's Cup

Barnwood United Reserves 0

Minchinhampton 3

WITH the weather and pitch conditions not conducive to good football both sides struggled to get their games going.

After weathering an early spell of Barnwood pressure, Minchinhampton were awarded a penalty when Angus Gegg was pushed to the ground as he drove into the penalty box. Jack Hornsby stepped up and saw his spot kick strike the post, but was alive in the ensuing melee to slam home the loose ball. Soon after Hornsby was again frustrated by the post when he headed a Liam St Clair Moore cross against it.

The second period was as scrappy as the first. Midway through the half Minchinhampton were awarded a free-kick for the keeper creeping out of his area and Jack Hornsby curled a fine free-kick around the wall and into the net giving the keeper no chance.

Barnwood pushed on in search of a way back and drew a fine point blank save from Kieran Hart in the visitors goal. Player-manager, Natty Buckland, who was on as a second half sub, added a third goal to seal the win when he twisted and turned in the box before placing his shot across the keeper and into the corner of the net.
