SHORTWOOD are in dreamland after the biggest win in the club's history.

Goals from James Singh and former Gloucester City legend Andy Hoskins saw the Nailsworth underdogs pull off the shock of the FA Cup second qualifying round at Forest Green on Sunday.

Wood were never overawed by the Southern League Premier side and followed their 3-0 win at Tiverton Town in the previous round with another staggering result.

City enjoyed the greater possession, but Shortwood were resolute. Ben Mammola, Ashley Thomas (playing with a fractured toe), Olly Roberts and Jon Embling were outstanding at the back as Jack Pitcher failed to replicate his five-goal haul from the previous round.

Pete Smith, Ben Pugh and Singh proved a real handful with their constant running while Hoskins never let the Tigers' defence enjoy a comfortable time.

Shortwood were positive from the start and although Pitcher shot straight at Pearce it was Wood who almost stole the lead in the 14th minute.

Pugh and former Forest Green striker John Cant combined well before Embling's floated cross came back off the post as Hoskins put City keeper Kevin Sawyer under pressure.

Pitcher then volleyed over from close-range after 16 minutes.

However, Shortwood's dream day saw the Tigers blunted. Pugh found time and space to put in an excellent cross for Singh to nodhome his eleventh goal of the season.

Gloucester had their best chance on 30 minutes, but Wood survived a hectic goalmouth scramble as a combination of feet and heads somehow kept strikes from Lee Smith, Marc Richards and Jason Welsh out.

Pony-tailed City full-back Jamie Price then saw his spectacular strike tipped over by Pearce. However, Shortwood almost increased their lead before the break with Singh going close. Wood made it two on 49 minutes.

Pugh again made ground down the left and his cross dropped over the backpeddling Sawyer to Singh who stabbed the ball against the post before Hoskins scored from close range.

After that City huffed and puffed but the Wood defence coped well with all that was thrown at them with Pearce making excellent saves from former Forest Green favourite Alex Sykes.

The Tigers ran out of steam before the end and Shortwood finished looking comfortable. Price almost turned an Embling ball into his own net and then substitute Rich Evans saw his strike fly agonisingly over.
