TAVERNERS FC are running trials for their new under-18s side, which will compete in the Midland’s Junior Premier League from next season.

The team will be run by Mark Cook who has a raft of youth football experience, including several years coaching WBA Glos Under 18s side and Stroud FC Youth team.

Cook will be assisted by Slimbridge keeper Lewis Adams, who has come through the youth ranks with Cook over the years.

Cook said “I’m so excited to start this project of providing a platform for local young players to move from youth football to the adult game with Taverners. The club's moving forward at a rapid pace now and we’ve got some excellent projects on the horizon, including a revamp of the changing rooms, club house and first-team pitch. Having a youth set-up will stabilise the club for years to come as we are approaching our 50th year so it’s exciting times for Taverners.

"We’ve had a tremendous amount of interest in the trials already and I can’t wait to meet the players and help them in the development to the next stage of their career”

Trial dates will be held on May 13, 15 & 20 at the Owen Harris Memorial Ground, Eastington, GL10 3AQ. Session times are 6.30pm-8pm.
