Forest Green striker Christian Doidge says it's 'back to the original plan' for Rovers after their automatic promotion hopes were ended last weekend.

Crewe Alexnadra fought back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 and break Rovers hearts.

Doidge, who has scored 14 goals for Forest Green despite being away at Bolton Wanderers for four months, insists the club would have snapped your hand off to be in the position they're in and is now keen to help Rovers get promotion via the play-offs.

"Pre season we'd have bitten your hand off," said Doidge. "If you can't be positive about it what can you be so it's back to the original plan and what better way to do it than at Wembley.

"It was tough to take considering result went out way. Looking at the season you'd have taken this at the start.

"Pre season we'd have bitten your hand off so if you can't be positive about it what can you be so it's back to the original plan and what better way to do it than at Wembley.

Doidge has scored five goals in his last five games, his best scoring run of the season but still feels he's can play better.

"I've had good opportunities to score goals," he explained. "My form's not been fantastic but it's a good time to score goals."

It's a crucial game for the Grecians who need to win and hope Newport County slip up to qualify for the play-offs.

Doidge says that the team have moved on from the defeat at Crewe and are now keen to build momentum ahead of the play-offs with victory over Exeter, a team he knows well after battles with them last season.

"I didn't play the last game but we played them about 45 times last year so I know them pretty well," he joked.

"They need to win so they're going to be up for it.

"No one has spoke about Saturday, It's about improving and we can't look back at a past result."
