CO-MANAGER Jason Scrivens was fulsome in his praise for New College Swindon as his Shortwood United side handed the fledglings a 14-1 Hellenic League Division One West drubbing.

Joe Wilton bagged four goals, Troy Budd, Tom Black and substitute Luke Soule all bagged hat-tricks in a goal avalanche which featured a single strike from Ben Langworthy. Lee Bowles was the chief goal assist architect – creating 10 opportunities for his team-mate to gobble up.

But Scrivens was acutely mindful of the torrid time his side endured last season, which delivered just one league win and he was magnanimous in victory.

Scrivens said: “Full credit to New College, who are in a place where we were in ways of crushing defeats early on , they are a young side, who never gave up and continued to try and play football even when losing heavily, we scored more goals in one night than all of last season, so it shows how far we have come and we’ll only get better as season progresses.”
