FOREST GREEN fan Finlay Byrnes wants to toast two Nailsworth promotions this season.

The apprentice electrician is aiming to help spark Shortwood United to the Hellenic League Division One West title, whilst keeping an eye on Forest Green’s goal of reaching League One, a team he’s supported and once played for.

“I think both teams have a great chance of going up,” said the 19-year-old midfielder who captained Adam Coyle’s all-conquering Slimbridge U18s last season, where he also played a number of times for Lee Driver-Dickerson’s Southern League side.

“Shortwood have had a hard few years, so it will be great for them to go up and I feel we have a great chance to make that happen. I’m loving playing for Shortwood at the moment, we’ve got a really good set of lads and feel like we can compete well this year.”

And Byrnes still loves the chance to follow the Green Army, recently travelling with his South Stand mates to watch Mark Cooper's side in action at Exeter City.

He added: “I’ve followed FGR ever since I was little to be honest, I played for them from the age of five up to 16 and supported them alongside that. I still go home and away with a good group of lads, whenever I’m not playing.”
