WALES boss Ryan Giggs is on the verge of calling up former Forest Green striker Christian Doidge.
Hibernian hot-shot Doidge is in his thoughts for Wales’ friendlies against Austria and the United States at the end of this month and could play up front with his former Forest Green team-mate Kieffer Moore.
Doidge and Moore partnered each other at Forest Green in the 2016/17 season under boss Mark Cooper.
Doidge has pushed himself into the thoughts of Wales boss Ryan Giggs having scored 17 times in all competitions since the start of November following his £350,000 move from Forest Green in the summer.
And Doidge admitted earlier this month that pulling on the red shirt of his country would be a dream come true, especially under his hero Giggs, whose name he had on the back of his Manchester United shirt as a youngster.
Doidge is in his thoughts for Wales’ friendlies against Austria and the United States at the end of this month.
Giggs told clwbpeldroed.org : “He’s someone who I looked at actually 18 months ago.
“I looked at him, I went to watch him at Bolton and he came on with ten minutes to go which has been the case a lot of times.
“He’s someone who, obviously, is scoring goals. He was at Forest Green, Bolton and started in the Welsh Leagues.
“When you have a goalscorer, it doesn’t matter what level, they know where the back of the net is.
“He’s someone who we’re looking at closely over the next few weeks, obviously with the games coming up.”
