Brimscombe & Thrupp made a winning return to league action as the Hellenic League resumed on Saturday.

Playing their first league match in almost two months, the Lilywhites triumphed 2-1 at home to Shrivenham.

They were quickly on the attack, going forward in numbers, particularly down the left flank. Chalmers Phin, Dan Hill and Ollie Pitt combining well.

Phin had the beating of his full back the Lilywhites were unable to capitalise from any of his crosses.

Constant attacking pressure told on the Shrivenham defence however when, after a third corner on five minutes, a superb inswinger from Ollie Pitt resulted in a powerful header from, defensive find of the season, centre back Jack Bartman..

More goals looked inevitable as Jonty Welch blasted two chances towards goal which Shrivenham goalie Cavanagh threw himself to block.

Pitt and Bartman combined again on 42 mintues, the latter heading in the former's wicked free kick from the left.

Shrivenham scored a header of their own on 66 minutes to halve the deficit but a determined Lilywhites defence saw the game out.

On Saturday Brimscombe and Thrupp play in the third round of the FA Vase against Bridgewater Town. Kick off is 3pm at the Meadow.
