PLAY-OFF chasing Peterborough United scored twice in the final 20 minutes to leave Forest Green Rovers' League One survival hopes hanging by a thread.

Jonson Clarke-Harris's penalty in the 73rd minute gave Posh the lead before Hector Kyprianou sealed the win in the fifth minute of added time.

Rovers had come close to equalising through Amadou Bakayoko and defender Brandon Cooper but Kyprianou's late goal saw them again take nothing.

It was a second defeat for new boss Duncan Ferguson and his side now sit seven points adrift of safety, having also played at least more games than their relegation rivals.

Ferguson admitted that whilst the result was disappointing, he was encouraged by the performance.

"I thought we played well and like last week you can see the organisation, they’re taking lots of instruction on," he said.

"It’s just unfortunate that the penalty starts it off. That then puts us on the back foot and maybe we should’ve played it a little better there, and work into the final third, it’s disappointing but also encouraging with the performance they put in.

"I don’t think it was a 2-0 game. It was a tight game, they didn’t have many chances.

"They hit the post but on the whole, there wasn’t too many. We struggled in the final third to create chances but we had a good shape about us and didn’t concede many chances.

"We’ve got to keep going, I don’t look at the table, it would keep me up at night if I did! I concentrate on my job and that’s to make these players better and I think you can see that."

Forest Green are next in action away at fellow relegation rivals Morecambe next Saturday at 3PM.
