Over the last few months, several of the squad have been going through the trialing process for the Under 19 Great Britain team which lead to Ella F (year 13), Yasmin H (year 13) and Lily M (Year 12) being selected to row at Munich international regatta for Great Britain, the first event of the season in the GB U19 calendar.

These girls made up half of the GB girls sculling team which is an incredible achievement for Wycliffe.

On Saturday morning, Lily and Yasmin were entered in the JW2x and put down an impressive performance to pick up a bronze medal, while Ella fought hard in a tough heat to win the B final in the JW1x.

In the afternoon Lily and Ella went into the JW4x event with 2 other girls from Shiplake College and Kingston Grammar school. They put down a great performance to place 1st, rowing through the opposition in the last 200m to take the gold medal.

On the Sunday, Yasmin and Ella raced in the JW4x, and again took gold medal position leading the race from the start.

Lily had another run down the track in the JW2x and won their heat by over 20 seconds to take the gold medal.

An incredible achievement for these girls being selected to row for Great Britain and winning almost every event entered, this is a great starting point for future summer racing such as the Coupe De La Jeunesse and the U19 world championships.

Wycliffe Rowing are now preparing for their upcoming events, including National Schools Regatta in a few weeks’ time and also Henley Royal Regatta later in the summer where they are aiming to qualify at least two quads into the Diamond Jubilee event like they have done for the last two years.
